The Magic of Mold Making
With Strange Fur
Mold making and casting are like magic. Together, they let you make near perfect copies of objects or body parts and effortlessly transform things from one material into another—like a light bulb into rubber, mushrooms into plastic, or maybe a finger into chocolate. In this 6-part course, we'll cover all the ins and outs of mold making and casting, including: * using alginate to make simple copies of body parts like hands, ears, and maybe even tongues * how to make reusable two-part plaster molds * using soft and stretchy silicone to copy complex objects * life-casting with silicone to make reusable molds of body parts, including a person's face * generating copies from your molds with plaster, resin, and silicone (as well as tips and tricks for other materials)

- No prior knowledge needed! Participants may be asked to bring small objects from which they'd like to take molds.
About the artist
Adam, a.k.a. Strange Fur (he, she), is an experience designer, artist, and recovering academic whose work revolves around monsters and the hidden magic of everyday places. As a former researcher in environmental history, she returns obsessively to questions about ecology, landscape, and kinship with the nonhuman world. Adam has taught university-level courses in environmental studies for many years and has led workshops in foam construction, inflatable sculpture, and latex prosthetics. He also helped produce The Palace Residency in Gorzanów, Poland, in 2023 and 2024.
