SCENE BY SCENE: Screenwriting Workshop

Most story development starts with the outline and saves scenes for later. This course flips that order. We start writing scenes early — before the story is fully mapped — because scenes reveal things an outline can't: how your characters actually behave under pressure, your natural rhythm and style, where your story's real focus lives, and which problems are still unsolved. Across the weeks, we move between two tracks that constantly inform each other: developing your story idea - short or feature-length - through scene work, and learning the craft behind it: character, dramaturgy, dialogue, tension, plot. We'll write scenes, read them aloud, and take them apart together. We'll play games, we'll get comfortable and we'll unblock the mind! By the end, you'll have a clearer story and a sharper instinct for how to get there — one you can carry into any future script. This is a workshop to help you find your story, and the film that only you could have written.

- What should I bring?
- Bring an idea for a film- short or feature length! It should be something you really want to go in-depth on. Maybe it is just a rough idea, maybe you already started writing a script and are stuck, maybe you are on your 100th draft of a treatmend and cannot seem to get into the scenes. Whatever it is, we'll breathe some life into it and let's have some fun! You should be able to write down your script idea on 1/2 page. It can be a rough sketch. Just get something on paper :).
About the artist
Mireya is a screenwriter & filmmaker from Berlin. She graduated in Screenwriting from the German Film and Television Academy (DFFB) in 2020. In 2019 she was awarded Best Screenplay for her first feature film script LOST LUGGAGE by the German Ministry for Culture and Media. Her feature film script WEST OF HANOI was nominated for the prestigious First Steps Award. She co-founded the writers’ collective Fremdstoff, dedicated to bringing an intersectional gaze to stories. She is currently preparing her feature film debut while continuing to work on TV and film projects.
