Music Creation and Analysis

This course will delve deeply into music "theory" and analysis, leaving out intimidation. Through music analysis and study, you will create your own sound and compose music in a supportive environment. We'll study chord structure, modes, melodies and also sound art and extended techniques. Parallel to music study, each workshop participant will be working on their individual composition assignment. The composition can be of any format, regardless of your method of music/sound creation. The voice is an instrument and vocalists are welcome. We will playing our instruments live during the workshop when needed and a drumset will be available to keep time. During the course students will develop knowledge of the piano keyboard and basic technique. Students can bring in examples of music they would like to study. Attendants are encouraged to break all the rules of what we analyze and create their own sound from themselves. There will be theory homework and composition exercises to bring to class each week. The class presentations are not meant to be a critique of anyones work. This is a class based on collective encouragement and the discussion of music. This workshop is open to everyone, regardless if you have participated in the previous music workshops.
