It can be changed later if needed. This workshop offers an introduction to ceramics through direct engagement with clay as a responsive and collaborative material. Rather than focusing on technical mastery, participants will be invited to develop an intimate relationship with clay through touch, observation, experimentation, and play, while gaining the confidence and foundational knowledge to continue working with the material independently after the workshop. Drawing from different ceramic practices and artistic references, we will explore how forms emerge through dialogue with the material, learning to work with its rhythms, resistances, fragilities, and possibilities. Through a series of guided exercises, participants will create ceramic pieces using hand-building techniques while developing a deeper understanding of clay's unique qualities. The workshop takes place over two sessions. The first focuses on material exploration and hand-building, while the second introduces glazing as a continuation of the conversation between maker and material. Alongside practical exercises, participants will be introduced to essential processes and approaches that support further independent exploration. Open to all levels, the workshop is designed as a collective space for curiosity, experimentation, and learning through making.
