Geometries of Rhythm

The workshop invites participants to experience rhythm not only as something to follow, but as something to create, break, and reshape through polyrhythmic exercises and games. Footwork techniques are based on geometric shapes and participants explore rhythmic possibilities in the body, in space and in time. Throughout the workshop, participants are guided through a progressive set of tasks that combine improvisation and structured exercises, allowing them to express their personal approach to rhythm while also engaging in collective composition processes. Rhythm is approached as a physical and collective tool that expands beyond repetition and becomes a field of experimentation, allowing participants to shift between structure and improvisation while staying connected to listening and group awareness.

- What should I bring?
- No prior experience is needed. The workshop is open to anyone interested in movement, rhythm, and physical exploration. Participants should bring comfortable clothes they can move in, comfortable shoes, a pen, and a notebook.
About the artist
Houcem Bouakroucha is a Tunisian dancer and performer recently based in Berlin. He began dancing through hip-hop in Tunisia before training in contemporary dance techniques and performance practices. He has collaborated with Tunisian and international choreographers and performed internationally at festivals including Festival d'Avignon and Tanz im August. Since 2023, he has co-founded Roof Collective in Tunis, developing choreographic work for non-conventional and site-specific contexts; the collective is currently part of the In Situ Platform. Alongside his artistic work, he has led workshops and teaching projects focused on rhythm, movement research, improvisation, and composition.
