Cyanotype Workshop on Paper & Fabrics
With Vanessa & Lula
In this workshop, we work with cyanotype, one of the oldest photographic printing techniques, developed in the 1840s. You’ll coat textile or paper with a light-sensitive solution, create compositions using objects, plants, or photographic negatives, and expose them in natural sunlight. The result: deep blue prints, each one unique. We’ll also explore toning, a process that transforms the classic cyanotype blue into different color shades. Using natural substances like tea, coffee, or plant extracts, you can shift your prints toward warm browns, muted greens, or soft grays. By the end of the session, you’ll have a small collection of finished prints and a hands-on understanding of the cyanotype process, enough to keep experimenting on your own. We provide the cyanotype solution and paper but also feel free to bring any textiles, objects, plants etc. to work with. No prior experience with photography or printmaking necessary, just curiosity and a willingness to play and experiment!

About the artist
Vanessa and Lula are a photography duo, they both graduated from photography school in 2024 and are working as freelance photography artists since then. They both specialized in the analog photographic process, experimenting with different techniques and methods. Vanessa is the founder of the cyanotype brand Wir Machen Blau and Lula is working at C/O Foundation Berlin, a photography museum, hosting photography workshops.
