Body Builders: An immersive play with clay and the figure

Do you have an interest in clay? Or an interest in life drawing? ‘Body Builders’ combines clay and life drawing as a new way to explore the vast options we have within life drawing. During this workshop we will be looking at how clay can be used as a means of documentation for the subject of life drawing. Life drawing and clay sculpture have both existed in the art world for a long time, but how will it be to craft the model out of clay in real time? Clay can be playful, malleable, joyful, curious and at times frustrating. We all have an individual approach to the material, and with your hands as your tools we will explore how you want to capture life through it. Embracing its impermanence through fun and collaborative exercises, this workshop will invite you to get messy! Body Builders is a new standalone workshop run as a branch from the collaborative life drawing series Unleashed, which was run with artist Crista Siglin as part of the 90Mil ArtSchool previously.

- Anyone who is curious about working with clay and the body. Please be mindful of this workshop in the sense there is nudity, being respectful to the model, facilitator and participants is key. If you are interested in a general clay workshop, please contact directly, as this is a life drawing class.

About the artist
Luca Bentley (he/they) is an artist, creative workshop organiser and art teacher based in Berlin. A background in Illustration and Animation, he co-runs Queer Trans* Life Drawing Berlin, Clay Jam, and works as an artist with Social Muscle Club, Gelbe Villa and is part of 90Mil Ceramics Community. Luca often works collaboratively, focuses on the importance of curiosity and play, and aims at building a welcoming space to learn and explore creative practices. Whimsical, joyful and weird are some of the ways to describe his personal clay practice.
